Oklahoma – An Oklahoma woman was taken into custody and later charged with multiple charges, including second-degree murder in connection with her newborn’s death. Prosecutors claim the defendant reportedly drank several bottles of alcohol and fell asleep while leaving her baby and his older sibling, 4, unsupervised for nearly two hours. According to the woman, when she woke up, she reportedly found her child unresponsive and immediately rushed him to the hospital. The 32-year-old woman is being held on $750,000 bond and her next court appearance is scheduled for March 18.

The investigation process began last month after the 32-year-old woman, Kristin, rushed the 2-month-old baby to the hospital. The hospital staff discovered that the child suffered serious head trauma and notified the authorities. The child was pronounced dead several hours after arriving at the hospital.

During an interview with investigators, the defendant reportedly said that she picked both the baby and her 4-year-old child from day care and left the children alone for several minutes before finding her baby unresponsive in a baII-pit. According to the woman, one day before the fatal incident, she witnessed her older son threw the baby in the same baII-pit, but the baby was not injured. The woman also told investigators that her older child often jumps into the baII-put, local news outlet News9 reported.

Authorities believe the baby’s injuries occurred after he was thrown into the baII-pit. During the investigation process, authorities in Oklahoma discovered that the woman bought 2 bottles of alcohol that day and drank them both. She drank one until 3 p.m., when she went to pick her children, and then bought another, which she drank when she arrived home.

The woman also admitted to falling asleep after finishing the second bottle, while leaving both children unattended for nearly two hours. Authorities in Oklahoma said the child most likely suffered the injuries while his mom was sleeping.
